ABCDE of Skin Cancer Explained

Here are two things you should know before we begin:

  1. In Florida you should be getting your ENTIRE BODY checked by a licensed physician no less than once a year
  2. This should be INCLUDED in your wellness visit for most people, others may have to make an appointment with a dermatologist

Please don’t put this off. Skin cancer can be deadly.

A: Asymmetry. A lot of cancerous conditions cause a “mole” or other lesion to be very asymmetrical.

B: Borders: If the borders are not smooth and even, if can be a warning sign. Get it checked!

C: Color: If the color is not uniform, get it checked.

D: Diameter: If the mole is larger than the tip of a pencil eraser, call your doctor.

E: Evolving: Any mole that starts to CHANGE, get in right away.
